THE PARAMITA CENTER SOUTHEAST

Bringing the Paramita Centre teachings to the US

The Paramita Center Southeast is a teaching center for meditation and Tibetan Buddhism. We offer teachings, retreats, initiations, and other activities in the tradition of the Paramita Centers.

We are opening the first US Center and invite everyone interested in studying and practicing Meditation or Buddhism.

Our pages will contain information about meditation, Buddhist philosophy, and upcoming classes and events. Join us as we grow, in anticipation of opening a physical center.

THE PARAMITA CENTER SOUTHEAST

About the Center

Geshe Lobsang Samten

Spiritual Director of the Paramita Centers and ordained monk in the Gelug tradition of Tibetan Buddhism

The Paramita Center Southeast is a US Center affiliated with the Paramita Centres of Québec, Toronto, France, and India. We are a Center in the Tibetan Buddhist Gelug tradition, as founded by the great teacher Je Tsongkhapa and today led by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. We offer meditations, teachings, retreats, initiations, and other activities.

The Centre made its beginnings in Quebec in 2003, founded by Geshe Lobsang Samten. Since then many Centers have been established in Quebec province and in France. The Centre started its activities in Ontario in 2015 and opened a location in Toronto in 2019, welcoming everyone to study and practice Meditation and Buddha’s Teachings in English.

Is the Center only for Buddhists?

No! We teach from the Buddhist perspective and closely follow a true lineage of teachings leading back to Shakyamuni Buddha. However, the teachings are universal and applicable in any context. This is particularly true of classes in meditation, which teach authentic means for calming and training the mind to be able to focus strongly while remaining relaxed.

We are opening the Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to bring the Paramita Centre teachings to the US. The Center’s spiritual director is Lama Samten, assisted by one of his senior teachers, Tibetan monk Tenzin Gawa (Jason Simard)Lobsang Tharchin (Les Kertay) will teach classes in calm-abiding meditation and will organize other events through the Center.

As Lama Samten has said:

“Whatever your religious origin, an interest in Buddhism can be truly useful because it offers an important insight into the fundamental problems of human existence. Because Buddhism is founded on the principles of non-violence, universal compassion and world peace, it places great importance on global responsibility aimed at kindness, altruism and harmony among all human beings. Ultimately, Buddhism aims at maintaining the fragile balance of our planet and developing the hope of a better life. It opens the door to open-mindedness, mutual understanding, and dialogue beyond all differences.”
