Have you wondered about Buddhist philosophy and whether it can help you find more calm and understanding? This course is an opportunity to find out.

Buddhist philosophy is a profound system that offers deep insight into ourselves and our experience of the world. Perhaps you have been curious about Buddhist philosophy but haven’t known where to start. Perhaps you know some but are looking for a deeper understanding. Or perhaps you have received teachings or read texts on Buddhism but are curious about Tibetan traditions. It might be that you have some experience of meditation but are wondering if there’s more to it. For any of these reasons, this course is for you.

Join us for an introduction to Buddhist philosophy in the tradition of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. The root text for this urban retreat is a highly condensed summary of the essence of the lamrim (ལམ་རམ, stages of the path) teachings. It was written in the late 14th century by the Tibetan sage Je Tsongkhapa. In only 14 verses, the Three Principal Aspects of the Path summarizes the essential points of the lamrim, showing the way to obtaining a calm mind and an understanding of reality as it is. The text is a wonderful introduction to the depth of Buddhist philosophy, opening the door to what can be a lifetime of study and ever-deepening understanding.

All living beings seek to increase well-being and reduce suffering. If you would like an introduction to teachings that can start you on the path to achieving that well-being and, if followed far enough, can end suffering altogether, join us.

Logistics: Class will be on Sunday, December 6th, from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM, with a lunch break. The structure will combine teachings with opportunities for group meditation. For those attending in person, we will provide water, hot drinks, and snacks; please bring a lunch or a dish to share if you so desire. For those who are local, we highly recommend attending in person if possible; attending by Zoom is also available. The cost of the class is $65; please contact us if you require a partial or full scholarship in order to attend.
